The INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR BIOLOGICAL STANDARDIZATION (IABS) is organize a workshop on human challenge trials on October 22nd at Paul-Ehrlich-Institut. The scope of the meeting will be to discuss the quality requirements for the challenge strains. This includes some regulatory aspects but in my opinion many scientific and clinical issues, e.g. getting the balance right between strain virulence and infectivity and safety.
We are currently collecting names of potential participants that we would then invite. We will have funds available (from Welcome Trust and maybe others) to pay for the travel of researchers from outside the EU, in particular low and middle income countries.
