According to Yaya Togo, DRL Project Coordinator, in Africa, several universities (in Nigeria, Somalia, Uganda,…) have established higher education programmes in disaster risk management .
In Mali, it is a novelty and an original programme, both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary, including geophysical and environmental, legal, economic, social, sanitary and regulatory aspects. It is also a set of techniques for monitoring and managing disaster risk and a related political instrument, he says.
The master, organized in 4 semesters, he says, will be launched before the end of the year 2019 and organized in 4 semesters. It consists of the following 5 areas of competence, which in turn are subdivided into modules and then into sessions. These include community, social and humanitarian, disaster operations, monitoring and evaluation, environment and infrastructure, and health in disaster situations.
